According to Fabrizio Romano Tottenham is about to make a great signing

Tottenham Hotspur are said to be close to completing the signing of Guglielmo Vicario.

Several media sources and journalists, including Fabrizio Romano, have reported that the transaction is nearing completion.

Tottenham have been on the lookout for a goalkeeper this summer, with Hugo Lloris’ future unknown.

Spurs initially pursued Brentford’s David Raya, but negotiations appear to have halted as the Bees played hardball.

They apparently refused to lower their goalkeeper valuation to £40 million.

With that in mind, Tottenham appear to be concentrating their efforts on Vicari.

Things went swiftly, and by Thursday evening, Romano could say, “here we go” on the move.

He announced on Twitter that Spurs have reached an agreement with Empoli for €19 million (about £16.3 million).

Romano then tweeted that Vicario will travel to London this weekend for a medical.

The 26-year-old has reportedly agreed to a five-year contract and is’more than pleased’ to join Spurs.

To be sure, the news of this ostensibly imminent deal has divided Tottenham fans.

It’s easy to see why. After all, Spurs chose a relatively unknown player over a Premier League-proven great.

Also, Pierluigi Gollini, the last Italian goalkeeper to join Tottenham from Serie A, struggled at N17.

Vicari, on the other hand, appears to have a lot going for him and has received a lot of positive feedback in Italy.

The Italian is a fantastic shot stopper (as evidenced by this quadruple save from previous season) and a solid passer.

In addition, Italy star Gianluigi Buffon remarked last year that Vicario was accomplishing “extraordinary” things at Empoli.

We hope to be pleasantly pleased by Vicari’s performance at Tottenham if (or when) he joins.
