So, here’s how Ange Postecoglou might prepare his club for the first game of the 2023/24 season.
Postecoglou like to use a 4-3-3 formation with two defensive midfielders and a number 10 right behind his forwards.
The Australian enjoys offensive, progressive football and will expect his full-backs to run a lot and his center-halves to be comfortable in possession.
According to The Telegraph, there may be an exodus this summer, with many players expected to quit Spurs as Postecoglou overhauls his roster.
So far in this transfer window, Guglielmo Vicario has arrived to replace Hugo Lloris as Tottenham’s number one goalkeeper, while James Maddison has arrived to fill the creative hole.
With these new faces, as well as a centre-back assumed to be on the schedule (90 minutes), here is our prospective lineup for Postecoglou’s first competitive game as manager:
GK Guglielmo Vicario
RB Pedro Porro
CB Cristian Romero
Despite some fiery moments, Romero is undeniably a top-tier defender who will be an instant starter for Postecoglou. Hopefully, the Argentine can keep his cool this year, as he will need to be a true leader in this new-look defense.
CB Edmond Tapsoba
The next major issue for Postecoglou and the Spurs board is to find a quality defensive partner for Romero.
If we can sign him, Edmond Tapsoba would be an excellent addition to the left-sided centre-back position, with a wide range of passing abilities.
Don’t rule out Micky van de Ven, a promising defender Fabrizio Romano has hinted we’re interested in.
LB Destiny Udogie
DM Yves Bissouma
DM Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg
AM James Maddison
Spurs have finally signed one of their long-term targets in Leicester City’s James Maddison, who will inject much-needed creativity into a club that has been lacking for years. We can’t wait to see him perform his magic in the hole where the attack was launched.
RW Dejan Kulusevski
LW Heung-min Son
ST Harry Kane
We hope Harry Kane is still a Tottenham player when the summer transfer market closes, and if he is, he will undoubtedly be the club captain. Last season, the talismanic striker carried Spurs to victory, but with a more free-flowing, offensive side, he could do even better in 2023/24.
