Tottenham Hotspur manager Ange Postecoglou has advised the club not to sign Wolverhampton Wanderers defender Max Kilman this summer.
Tim Spiers, a journalist, was discussing on The View From The Lane Podcast on Tottenham’s recruiting during the transfer window.
It’s going to be a busy day for Spurs fans.
Not only is the team on its way to Barcelona for their final pre-season friendly, but there may be new faces at the club as well.
Ange Postecoglou could be set to get his hands on a senior centre-back.
Micky Van de Ven was present when they overcame Shakhtar on Sunday and had a medical yesterday.
Young striker Alejo Veliz, who is also set to sign in the coming days, joined him at Tottenham’s training base.
Max Kilman was one player Tottenham were considering adding to Postecoglou’s team.
In recent Premier League seasons, the 26-year-old defender has impressed.
However, one facet of his playing turned the Australian coach off from wanting him at Spurs.
Postecoglou has advised Tottenham not to sign Kilman.
“I feel like speed is the key here in terms of why they were so keen to bring him [Micky Van de Ven] in,” Spiers said of Tottenham’s centre-back quest.
“I know they were very interested in Max Kilman from Wolves and that the recruitment team was very interested in him, and I can understand why.”
“He and Van de Ven share a lot of characteristics in terms of size, physicality, and Kilman is excellent technically.”
“A similar price as well; from what I’ve heard, Kilman could be had for £40 million.”
“He also has family in London; I believe he would have been open to the move, but the problem with Kilman is that he is not quick; that is what he lacks.”
“And I believe that speed is the key to achieving Postecoglou’s goals.” According to what I’ve heard, the recruitment team was really interested in Kilman, but Postecoglou was not, and I’m guessing this is why.”
Kilman’s inability to keep up with Postecoglou reveals a lot about Tottenham’s style of play.
Van de Ven is noted for his speed, and Cristian Romero is known for his ability to play on the front foot.
Pedro Porro and Destiny Udogie both enjoy bombing forward, implying that Spurs are going to play some thrilling football.
Postecoglou may be about to unleash a kind of play that Tottenham fans haven’t seen in a long time.
