Angelos Postecoglou release powerful vow to spur fans in first interview since taking over as manager

Ange Postecoglou, the new manager of Tottenham Hotspur, stated in his first interview that he believes he will help “fulfill the dreams and aspirations of every supporter” and painted an image of how his team would appear under his instruction as pre-season began on Saturday.

Postecoglou was named Spurs’ new manager last month after an outstanding two-year stint at Scottish giants Celtic. He signed a four-year contract with the North London club.

Postecoglou is entrusted with revitalizing a Spurs team that missed out on Europe this season after finishing eighth in the Premier League and hasn’t won a trophy since 2008.

The Australian has received praise for his energetic, exhilarating brand of football, which contrasts sharply with the pragmatic approach of his predecessors, Antonio Conte and Jose Mourinho.

Postecoglou told SPURSPLAY that he is ready for the challenge ahead and knows the “great expectation” that comes with managing one of England’s top clubs.

“I’m very excited about the challenge ahead of me – a massive football club, an exciting league, I guess everything you strive for in your professional career.” “It’s great to be here and ready to go,” he stated.

“I’m looking forward to it all.” I’m looking forward to every single part of it. It is not lost on me that there is a tremendous deal of expectation and obligation here.

“It’s not just about going out there and saying, ‘this is wonderful, what a great experience,’ I’ve taken on the responsibility of a massive football club with a great history and a fan base hungry for football and more great moments to add to the historical base we already have.”

“I see what you’re saying. That appeals to me as well. That is just where I want to be. I’d rather be here than anywhere else. I want to be in that position of responsibility, recognizing and accepting it. I’m looking forward to taking on that challenge.

“It’s a great moment, a proud moment not just for myself, but for my family, friends, and people who have been on that journey with me.”

“My main thoughts will be on the responsibility I bear and the excitement I feel within me that I will be able to fulfill the dreams and aspirations of every Tottenham fan.”

Postecoglou helped Celtic return to the top of the Scottish Premier League in his two seasons at the club, winning back-to-back league crowns, two Scottish League Cup finals, and the Scottish Cup – completing the treble in his last season.

And, in 113 games, Celtic only lost 18 times, giving the club a 73% victory record.

Winning has become something of a habit for Postecoglou at practically every club he’s led in his nearly 30-year coaching career, including South Melbourne, Brisbane Roar, Yokohama F Marinos, and the Socceroos.

He feels his type of football can not only “bring success” to a club devoid of trophy, but also delight a disgruntled crowd eager for the return of a more attacking style.

“I like to win, that’s the main thing, and I’ve done that wherever I’ve been,” Postecoglou explained.

“The game of football is intended to bring success. Along with that, it’s also essential to me that there’s an aspect of what I think most fans and players want to be connected with, and that’s exciting football that people speak about, not just the end result but also how you played your game.

He believes his brand of football can not only “bring success” to a trophy-less team, but also thrill a disillusioned fan base hungry for the restoration of a more attacking style.

“I like to win, that’s the main thing, and I’ve done that wherever I’ve been,” Postecoglou said.

“The game of football is designed to bring about success. Along with that, it’s important to me that there’s a component of what I believe most fans and players want to be associated with, and that’s exciting football that people talk about, not just the outcome but also how you played your game.
