John Wenham is concerned by Tottenham centre-back Ashley Phillips’ lack of playing time on loan at Stoke City.
The owner of the reputable Spurs podcast Lilywhite Rose is disappointed by the amount of time the defender has spent on the bench this season.
Phillips has played just twice in the Championship since joining the Potters on loan in August.
And Wenham – speaking exclusively to Tottenham News – has detailed how when the 19-year-old spends time with England’s Under-20s, he remains a regular.
“For Phillips, it was another disappointing weekend,” Wenham said.
“He has spent a lot of time on the bench this season. However, when he went away with the England Under-20s, he played every game for them.
“Therefore, it is concerning that he isn’t starting regularly for Stoke at the moment.”
Tottenham defender Ashley Phillips struggling on loan at Stoke City
Phillips started his first Championship game for Stoke in their 1-0 win against Plymouth Argyle at Home Park on Saturday 31 August. He didn’t feature again for the Potters in England’s second flight until Saturday (26 October).
However, it was an afternoon to forget for the young defender, as Sheffield United beat Stoke City 2-0 at Bramall Lane.
Therefore, Postecoglou will no doubt be concerned by Phillips’ lack of minutes, especially after speculation over a potential Premier League loan switch next season.
Spurs have a host of exciting young defenders on their books, and Phillips is one of them. As a result, Postecoglou will be keen to see the England youth international get back on track.
