Barcelona appears to be planning to sign Tottenham’s star player on loan during the summer transfer

In the summer transfer window, Barcelona will allegedly prioritize signing Giovani Lo Celso on loan from Tottenham.

Giovani Lo Celso is a key goal for Barcelona, according to Spanish publication Fichajes. And the freshly crowned La Liga champions have already made an offer for Tottenham midfielder Harry Kane. They intend to sign the 27-year-old on loan during the summer transfer window, with a €15 million buy option.

Giovani Lo Celso has had an unusual career since moving to Europe a few years ago. The Argentine international’s first club was Paris Saint-Germain, where he barely made an impression. He later joined Real Betis, where he rose through the ranks until joining Tottenham Hotspur.

The 27-year-old was initially signed on loan by the North London club before signing a permanent deal worth €32 million in July 2020. However, the youngster failed to establish himself at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium before being loaned out to Villarreal for the last 18 months. During his time with the Yellow Submarine, Lo Celso’s stock has increased once more.

When his loan with Villarreal expires this summer, the 2022 FIFA World Cup winner will return to Tottenham. However, he has no future at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. In the summer transfer window, Barcelona will try to entice him away from the North London club.

The Catalan giants have already strengthened their midfield by signing Ilkay Gundogan, albeit a formal announcement is still coming. However, they are not finished yet and intend to add another midfielder this summer. And the versatile Lo Celso has surfaced as a potential Barcelona target.

According to recent speculations, a swap deal involving Clement Lenglet could be in the works. However, according to Fichajes, Barcelona will negotiate a separate agreement for the Argentine international. They see the Tottenham midfielder as a top priority this summer. Furthermore, they have already offered the North London club a loan contract.

Barcelona will pay his salary of €6 million, with a buy option of €15 million. As a result, Tottenham will be unlikely to collect the €32 million fee they spent for the 27-year-old. But it will be intriguing to see if they are willing to accept Barcelona’s loan offer to keep Lo Celso.
