Newcastle United want to sign Jota in the January transfer window, but the winger prefers to join Ange Postecoglou’s Tottenham Hotspur.
That is according to 90min, who claims Jota would prefer a move to Tottenham.
So, what’s the latest on Newcastle United, Tottenham Hotspur, and Jota? Let us investigate.
What is the backstory?
Newcastle United and Tottenham Hotspur, according to 90min, are interested in signing Al Ittihad winger Jota in the January transfer window.
According to the report, both Newcastle and Tottenham could make bids for the former Celtic star.
Al Ittihad are willing to let the £200,000-a-week (The Scottish Sun) winger go, and the player himself is eager to leave the Saudi Pro League side despite only joining them from Celtic in the summer of 2023.
Newcastle want to sign Jota, but the problem that the Magpies could face is that their owners, Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund (PIF), are affiliated with Al Ittihad.
Spurs were also connected with the winger during the summer transfer window.
Tottenham Hotspur have the upper hand over Newcastle United because of Jota.
Tottenham Hotspur, in my opinion, are more likely than Newcastle United to sign Jota in the January transfer window.
To begin with, Tottenham do not have any links with Al-Ittihad as Newcastle have, therefore the North London club would encounter no obstacles in attempting to sign the 24-year-old.
Second, the winger wants to reunite with Ange Postecoglou. That could be a significant factor.
