Bryan King believes Borussia Dortmund forward Jamie Gittens is a player for Tottenham to monitor.
The ex-Spurs scout thinks a lot of scouts will be keeping a close eye on the player over the coming months.
As reported by BILD (21 October), Chelsea and Spurs are regularly sending scouts to watch the 20-year-old in action. However, he will cost big money, with Dortmund set to demand £83million-plus for the forward.
And King – speaking exclusively to Tottenham News – believes Dortmund have become a club which helps to develop young English players.
“Gittens is obviously progressing well with Dortmund,” King said.
“English clubs are watching German clubs all the time. Now we have a German club which seems to have become a breeding ground for talented English players.
“Therefore, I imagine there will be a lot of analysts and scouts making the journey over to Dortmund. Gittens is definitely one to be monitored by Tottenham.”
Tottenham to try and sign Borrusia Dortmund star Jamie Gittens?
Gittens is no doubt a talented player, with Spurs having received positive reports on the player (via CaughtOffside, 20 October). However, he hasn’t yet done enough to warrant a fee of £83million-plus. Therefore, it is unlikely that any club will look to spend that kind of money on the player in January.
However, should he continue to progress with Dortmund, interest will no doubt remain, and the young winger could be subject to an intense transfer battle next summer.
Should that battle take place, Ange Postecoglou would no doubt want to see Spurs involved.
However, with the amount of clubs likely to be interested, and the kind of fee being discussed, that could be a difficult race for Tottenham to win.
