Tottenham Hotspur have been linked with Chelsea’s Marc Cucurella in recent weeks.
For example, the Financial Times claimed recently that Spurs were ‘closely tracking’ the Spaniard’s position in West London.
Ange Postecoglou reportedly wants to add Cucurella to his squad to play with Yves Bissouma.
Tottenham have already made substantial additions to their squad this summer, particularly in midfield.
Spurs have recently signed Guglielmo Vicario, James Maddison, and Manor Solomon.
Dejan Kulusevski, who impressed on loan at N17, has also signed permanently for Tottenham.
However, according to the Daily Mail, Spurs are trying to strengthen their midfield and back line even further.
And now, according to Gianluca Di Marzio’s website, Tottenham’s path to Cucurella has just opened up.
Chelsea, according to the report, are open to proposals for the 25-year-old midfielder.
Cucurella is thought to want to stay, but if the club wants to get rid of him, he could have to think about his future.
Our view
Tottenham have fared fairly well in pre-season and on the transfer front this summer.
Postecoglou looks like a good shout for Spurs, a manager who can drag them back up into the upper echelons of the league.
Cucurella is a top talent who’s Premier League-proven and has a high ceiling, so he’s certainly an exciting lead for Tottenham.
TMS rated him as a ‘two-footed wizard who excels in possession of the ball’ and ‘one of the most versatile players on the planet’ last year.
Cucurella hasn’t been spectacular for Chelsea since being recruited for £55 million last year.
However, very few Blues players emerged with any credit from their disastrous 2022-23 season.
