Club manager send Tottenham hot message as Spur plot move to sign £30m midfielder from Bristol City

Bristol City manager Nigel Pearson has warned that luring Alex Scott away from the Championship club this summer will require a significant price.

Scott is widely regarded as the best young talent in the second tier, having earned countless admirers since breaking into Bristol City’s senior team last season.

Tottenham are said to be among the clubs interested in signing the 19-year-old this summer, with GiveMeSport reporting last month that the Lilywhites had inquired about his availability.

According to the article, Nigel Pearson’s team are assuming that Scott will go in the summer and aim to collect roughly £30 million for his services.

Spurs may face competition from Liverpool for the midfielder’s signature, with The Daily Mail reporting a few days ago that the Reds may enter the contest.

Pearson has already informed prospective suitors that Scott would not be allowed to leave Ashton Gate Stadium for free.

“Alex Scott, for example, as a point of conversation, every player has a price,” he told Bristol Live.

“It will have to be a very strong bid for him to go.”

“I can assure you that Steve [Lansdown, the Bristol City majority shareholder], he doesn’t want to sell players for the sake of it. It’s not about that.

“Alex Scott has had two really good Championship seasons for us, which is remarkable considering he’s only 19 years old, and he’s been one of our most successful and consistent players, but getting him away from here is going to cost a fortune, so we’re not going to undersell ourselves at all.”

“That’s why it’s critical to sign young players to long-term contracts.”

Scott has only two years left on his contract this summer, therefore Bristol will be unable to demand more than £25m-£30m.

They would almost certainly try to start a bidding war between Premier League clubs in order to secure the highest possible sum for the 19-year-old.
