Bryan King has labelled Daniel Levy’s comments as “unnecessary” after the Tottenham chairman said that he ignores criticism from fans.
The ex-Spurs scout believes instead of ignoring it, the chairman should be trying to respond to the criticism he receives.
Levy addressed multiple topics at a fans form held at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Monday (23 September).
When asked about the criticism he receives from supporters, the 62-year-old responded, “I have a very thick skin and I just ignore it. Makes me want to be more successful” (via PaulHitsheet on X, 23 September).
However, King – speaking exclusively to Tottenham News – doesn’t think that is the right response.
“I can understand why supporters would have taken those comments the wrong way,” King said.
“Those comments were unnecessary. When you are the chairman of a big football club, you’re going to get criticised.
“If things go wrong, it is your head on the line. Therefore, Levy will get the backlash as well as the manager because he has employed that manager.
“He is the frontman for the football club. To say that he ignores the criticism, I can understand that. However, he should also be trying to respond to that criticism.”
Daniel Levy likely to have angered supporters at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium
This isn’t the first time this sentence has been written, and it is unlikely to be the last time either – Levy has no doubt upset some Tottenham fans with his recent comments.
While at some points criticism goes too far, such as the abuse Brennan Johnson has had to suffer from recently, there are plenty of times where criticism can be fair and well-placed.
Therefore, for the chairman of a football club to simply suggest he ignores the concern of fans is not a good look in the slightest.
Perhaps if Levy listened and responded once in a while, he would be a more popular figure in North London, because at times he has shown he can do the right thing.
