According to a report revealing his stance on the links, Tottenham Hotspur have identified Vincent Kompany as a candidate to become their next manager.
Tottenham are looking for a new head coach after parting ways with Antonio Conte. Until they find someone, Cristian Stellini is in charge of the first team, with help from Ryan Mason.
In the long run, Tottenham is hoping to hire someone like Mauricio Pochettino, Julian Nagelsmann, or Luis Enrique.
However, The Sun reports that Kompany, who is currently building his reputation as a manager with Burnley, is another “leading contender” for the role.
The former Manchester City captain has also previously led Anderlecht and is now on the verge of securing promotion to the Premier League with the Clarets.
However, he may have a chance to manage in the top flight with a larger club. According to The Sun, he is willing to take the Tottenham job.
Having said that, it appears unlikely that he will leave Burnley before the end of the season, especially given how close they are to winning the Championship. However, if Tottenham are willing to wait, he could be an option in the future.
Kompany, who will turn 37 in April, is the youngest manager in the Premier League.
He stood out as Man City’s captain and is already demonstrating his ability to lead from the other side of the field.
Daniel Levy is said to be interested in his appealing brand of football. Tottenham may now consider trying to entice him away from Burnley, where his contract is set to expire in 2025.
However, in a recent interview with Sky Sports, Kompany hinted at taking Burnley as far as he could.
“The way I am as a person, my starting point is: ‘Okay, where can this place go?'” said the Belgian tactician.
Because everyone is talking about our limits, but I believe we are the only ones who can judge our own limits.
“So, my first thing is where this place can go and that consumes my every moment. So, as much as I love the club – I want to show an example – when we left Manchester City, I love the club. But, my first thought is not like: ‘Oh, it’d be nice to…’. My first thought is how we can close the gap.
“I believe that is my role as a manager.” Is something impossible being accomplished over there? Or is it even a possibility for us? That is my responsibility.
“That’s what I do, and that’s all that bothers me.” What about the rest? I’m not sure. When you find a good spot in football, I believe it is important to protect it.”
On Friday night, Kompany’s Burnley face Sunderland in the Championship. Tottenham, meanwhile, play their first Premier League game since Conte’s departure on Monday, when they travel to Everton.
