Tottenham appears to be in disarray, but it is vital to remember that Spurs control their own destiny as the 2022/23 season comes to a close. There’s no reason to spiral. Tottenham is seventh following an awful 6-1 loss to Newcastle, although they have the same number of points as the clubs in fifth and sixth.
Spurs should be able to play European football in 2023/24 unless something unexpected happens, even if they were hoping for a top-four finish in the middle of the season while Antonio Conte was still in charge.
Conte’s caustic remarks against the Spurs still ring in everyone’s ears, and his replacement will undoubtedly tread carefully. It is up to Daniel Levy to make the proper additions to strengthen a club that has severe difficulties almost everywhere in the lineup save forward – and even that might become a problem if Harry Kane decides he is better off heading elsewhere.
Here are five possible summer 2023 transfer targets for Tottenham Hotspur.
Montpellier ST Elye Wahi
Ligue 1 is regarded for producing some of the best young strikers in the world. Hugo Ekitike of PSG is another possibility, although Elye Wahi could be a more intriguing addition for Spurs. He might be a good match for Tottenham regardless of whether Kane decides to leave his only club.
Valencia GK Giorgi Mamardashvili
Finding a replacement for Hugo Lloris will be one of Tottenham’s main priorities in the upcoming transfer window. Giorgi Mamardashvili, the young Valencia goalkeeper, may be the most appealing alternative.
Mamardashvili was a breakout performer for Valencia as a first-year starter in 2021/22, save a remarkable 76 percent of the shots he faced. In nearly half of his outings, he kept a clean sheet!
Juventus ST Dušan Vlahović
Dušan Vlahović is a world-class striker. You can bank on that.
His work at Fiorentina was not a fluke, and despite struggling for Juventus this season due to injury and poor coaching, we have seen glimpses of his outstanding technical ability. Take a look at some of the free kicks he’s scored for the Bianconeri.
Vlahovi, an underestimated all-around 9 who scored 17 goals in 21 games for the Viola before joining Juventus, has been banished to the bench in Turin this season. Max Allegri has played a frustratingly cowardly kind of football, depriving the striker of chances.
Brentford GK David Raya
Tottenham’s goalkeeper transfer target is David Raya. Since his promotion to the Premier League with Brentford two seasons ago, he has been one of the greatest goalkeepers in the league.
His results are really even more astounding than Mamardashvili’s, despite being nearly five years older. Raya has stopped 76.2 percent of the shots he’s faced in 2022/23, after stopping more than 77 percent in the previous season.
Wolfsburg CB Micky van de Ven
Tottenham’s most pressing need is at center back, where only Cristian Romero appears to be a long-term starter. Romero is excellent, but the rest of the back line is not. The issue is that scouting center back is difficult, and it is unknown how much the Spurs are ready to invest in skill at the position.
