Tottenham Hotspur have announced the departure of Harry Winks, who leaves the club after a lengthy stay that began in 2014, with his Premier League debut coming in the 2016/2017 season, where he scored his first goal for Spurs away at Liverpool.
15 England appearances tells its own story of a Tottenham nearly man who was seemingly always setting up for a memorable career, but never quite had one. Winks’ Spurs career ended with a loan move to Sampdoria, where he made 19 appearances before returning to London, where he became a part of James Maddison’s arrival and will play for Leicester City next season.
He came, he saw, he hit an awful lot of sideways passes is the truth.
Many will use the phrase “loyal servant,” which is beyond me. It was always my understanding that he was well compensated for his dozen or so seasons.
Spurs must keep up the pace in the transfer market; there are many more players available where Winks came from. Tanguy Ndombele came at Hotspur Way this weekend looking as if he was overwhelmed. Eric Dier must have run out of places to hide, and Ben Davies is another who has made up the numbers. Improve the quality of the players if supporters want to see Spurs improve. Getting rid of instructors who have a track record of success in other capacities is not the solution.
