Deal on as Tottenham pushing hard to sign £50m forward including James Maddison

According to journalist Ben Jacobs, Tottenham Hotspur may plan a double raid for Leicester City duo Harvey Barnes and James Maddison.

On Wednesday’s Last Word On Spurs, Jacobs discussed Tottenham’s interest in Maddison.

The 26-year-old has emerged as a priority target for new manager Ange Postecoglou, with Spurs presently competing for his signature with Newcastle United.

Indeed, TEAMtalk reported yesterday that Newcastle is ‘baulking’ over Leicester’s demands for Maddison, potentially opening the door for Tottenham to sign him.

But it appears that Maddison isn’t the only Leicester player who Spurs are interested in signing this summer.

Jacobs believes Harvey Barnes will emerge as a real possibility for Tottenham over the coming weeks.

The writer added that Spurs’ interest in Maddison is well-known, but he believes Postecoglou’s team might want both Leicester players.

“The other dark horse, I would say, in the Spurs conversation is Harvey Barnes,” Jacobs added. “There may be a chance for a double raid.”

“I think Harvey Barnes to Spurs is going to gain traction in the coming weeks,” he continued.

Barnes is another player who has excelled for Leicester this season despite the club’s relegation to the Championship.

This season, the 24-year-old scored 13 goals and assisted once in 34 Premier League matches.

He’s a player who has previously been on the Spurs’ radar.

Leicester are apparently going to want roughly £50 million for the winger, and if Spurs do end up signing Maddison, the duo would cost around £100 million to sign.

That is unlikely at the moment, as Tottenham would prioritize defensive reinforcements as well as a successor for club captain Hugo Lloris.

Much will depend on how many players Spurs can let go this summer, with the club attempting to cut a bloated team.
