Bryan King believes Tottenham could be lining Eberechi Eze up as a replacement for James Maddison.
The ex-Spurs scout feels that Maddison’s time in North London could be coming to an end after just one season.
It comes after reliable Spurs insider Paul O Keefe revealed via X (14 June) that Eze is one of the club’s most desired transfer targets this summer.
As reported by the Daily Mail (7 June), the Crystal Palace star has a release clause worth a minimum of £60million.
And King – speaking exclusively to Tottenham News – finds it hard to believe that the club would spend that kind of money on Eze if Maddison is still around.
“But he reminds me a lot of Maddison. Does this therefore suggest that Maddison’s time with Tottenham could be up?”
“Maddison started off very brightly but then he disappointed himself and the club in the second half of the season.
“His attitude went downhill and he seemed to get involved in things on and off the field which were unnecessary.”
Could Tottenham replace James Maddison with Eberechi Eze?
Eze has been in sensational form over the past few months.
As a result, the Palace ace was named in Gareth Southgate’s 26-man squad for the 2024 UEFA European Championship, with Maddison missing out.
Whether or not Eze would be an upgrade on Maddison is up for debate, but what Spurs fans will want to see is both players at the club.
If Daniel Levy could complete a deal for Eze while keeping hold of Maddison it would give Ange Postecoglou some exciting squad depth ahead of next season.
