Tottenham Hotspur have confirmed that Bryan Gil has had surgery to repair a groin injury.
The Spurs winger has had a difficult summer, missing the Asia-Pacific trip owing to a back ailment.
Tottenham announced on their website that Gil would continue his recovery at Hotspur Way.
Gil has now been dealt another setback by having to undergo surgery to correct a groin ailment.
Spurs said he ‘will be constantly evaluated by our medical team to assess when he may return to training.’
Tottenham supporters and Gil’s contemporaries wished him luck in his recovery on social media.
Spurs teammates Giovani Lo Celso and Emerson Royal were just two of the many well-wishers.
The former wrote ‘let’s go brother’, and the latter wrote ‘do it brother’ – both in Spanish.
Gil also uploaded a photo of himself on a hospital bed to his Instagram stories to confirm that everything had gone well.
As reported by football.london, he said: “Everything has turned out great, thanks for the messages of support.”
In our opinion
It’s a shame Gil will have to sit out for a time as he recovers from surgery.
Hopefully, it won’t be a long absence and he’ll be able to return to action soon.
Tottenham is in a new age under Ange Postecoglou, and he’s willing to offer everyone a fresh start.
For example, Lo Celso’s time at Spurs appeared to be coming to an end, but he could now play a role this season.
This is great news for Gil, who is an immensely exciting talent with the potential to become a big star.
