Tottenham Hotspur’s interest in Leicester City player James Maddison has been updated by Fabrizio Romano, a well-known transfer specialist.
Since last summer, Maddison has been linked with a move away from Leicester, with Tottenham Hotspur and Newcastle United both displaying serious interest in the midfielder.
Newcastle had previously made two bids for Maddison, but both were rejected because they fell short of Leicester’s £60 million valuation.
Maddison’s contract with Leicester expires in 2024, although the club is now 18th in the Premier League and could be relegated this season.
Despite Leicester’s dismal season, Maddison has continued to impress, scoring nine goals and providing seven assists in the Premier League thus far. In 198 games with Leicester, he has 54 goals and 39 assists to his name.
Tottenham are looking for a creative midfielder, and Maddison would be an ideal fit.
Fabrizio Romano, a well-known transfer journalist, stated in his most recent YouTube video that something will happen with James Maddison this summer.
He stated that “many important clubs” are keeping an eye on the situation, including Tottenham.
Romano also stated that Tottenham “remain interested” in Maddison, but that they do not yet have a new manager or director of football, two positions that are vital in deciding on future deals.
However, Romano confirmed that Tottenham is interested in Maddison and regards him as a “important player” for the summer transfer window.
He said:
“There’s a buzz around James Maddison that something big will happen this summer.”
“Many important clubs are keeping an eye on the situation.” Tottenham continue to be interested in Maddison.
“It is true that they still do not have a new coach or a new director.”
“Because these are two critical points in deciding on a future signing, nothing is moving forward at the moment.”
“However, Tottenham are still monitoring Maddison and regard him as an important player who could become a summer target.”
Tottenham’s ability to sign Maddison in the summer remains to be seen.
If they do, it will be a huge coup for the club. Maddison is one of the league’s best midfielders and might make the team.
