Fabrizio Romano says Tottenham target is now joining Champions League club for around £21m

Tottenham Hotspur have enjoyed a fruitful summer on the transfer front and, as a result, will not need to rush around on transfer deadline day.

Archie Gray, Dominic Solanke and Wilson Odobert all signed for Spurs this summer and are in the first-team, while Timo Werner has rejoined on loan.

Meanwhile, Lucas Bergvall has arrived from Djurgarden after Tottenham struck a deal in January, while Yang Min-hyuk is set to arrive next year.

However, there will invariably be targets who slip through the net, with Fabrizio Romano reporting that one such player is now RB Leipzig-bound.

Tottenham-linked Lutsharel Geertruida set for RB Leipzig

The player in question is Netherlands international defender Lutsharel Geertruida, who was linked with Spurs earlier this summer.

Tottenham apparently led the race for the Feyenoord ace in June, and it was also reported that Spurs had made him a contract offer.

However, links have since petered out, and now Leipzig have sealed a deal for Geertruida, according to Romano.

The transfer insider declared “here we go” on Geertruida to the Champions League club in a deal “in excess of €25million” (around £21million)

Geertruida, who was “always the number one option” for Leipzig, is now set to travel to Germany on Friday for his medical.

According to FBRef data, Geertruida is one of the best passers in Europe compared to his positional peers.

The Netherlands international – who played at Euro 2024 – ranks in the top one per cent for progressive passes and pass completion.

Geertruida also ranks highly when it comes to non-penalty goals and non-penalty xG, and the scouting outlet has compared him to Marcelo and Jordi Alba.

Meanwhile, Football Talent Scout previously compared his style of play to that of Sergio Ramos and deemed him a “complete and dominant” defender.

He’d have been a good shout for Spurs, but if they want to bolster their defensive ranks further, they’ll need to look elsewhere ahead of the deadline.
