Tottenham Hotspur have announced the signing of James Maddison from relegated Leicester City after a swift agreement.
Spurs have confirmed the signing of Maddison.
Maddison becomes the club’s second acquisition of the summer following his demotion.
WHAT OCCURED?Spurs have signed the attacking midfielder for £40 million ($50.5 million) following Leicester’s relegation to the Championship. Newcastle was also interested in Maddison, but Spurs beat them to the punch, as he has signed a contract extension until 2028.

THE BIGGER PICTURE: Maddison, like Guglielmo Vicario, has joined new Tottenham manager Ange Postecoglou, with the goalkeeper revealed as a new addition on Tuesday. Newcastle had led the race for England international Maddison, but Spurs moved quickly to gain a march on their rivals and complete the deal. According to BBC Sport, Harry Winks is expected to join Leicester in a separate £10 million ($12.6 million) deal.
