According to Sky Sports journalist Dharmesh Sheth, Mauricio Pochettino is not interested in taking over as manager of Tottenham Hotspur right now because he wants to consider his options in the summer.
Tottenham are expected to look for a new manager in the coming days as Antonio Conte nears the end of his contract.
Last weekend, the Italian launched a stunning attack on his players and was widely expected to have left the club by this point.
Despite no official confirmation from Tottenham, Football.London reports that the Spurs players do not expect Conte to lead them to Goodison Park next weekend.
Tottenham are already weighing their options, and Mauricio Pochettino has been heavily linked with a move to the club.
However, it appears that the Argentine prefers to wait until the summer before returning to north London.
Pochettino is awaiting other offers despite Tottenham’s interest.
According to Sheth, Pochettino may be waiting to see if the Real Madrid job becomes available, with Carlo Ancelotti expected to leave at the end of the season.
“You’ll find that a lot of these big-name managers who Tottenham will be looking at say, ‘I’ll just keep my powder dry until the summer, then I’ll assess all of my options,'” said the Sky Sports journalist.
“That is definitely the information we are receiving regarding Mauricio Pochettino.” He wants to weigh all of his options over the summer because, you know what, another big job could be on the horizon.
“There’s a lot of talk about Carlo Ancelotti moving from Real Madrid to the Brazilian national team at the end of the season, and then you’ve got the biggest job, you could argue, for a manager available in world football.”
Pochettino appears to be a popular choice among Tottenham fans following his stellar tenure at the club.
The 51-year-old has been described as a ‘world-class’ manager, and despite a largely disappointing spell at PSG, he would have the fans’ full support if he returned to Spurs.
But it appears that he is weighing his options ahead of the summer, which is understandable given that the Madrid job could become available.
Many question whether Pochettino should return to north London now, with many of the players who ultimately let him down still at Tottenham.
