Tony Cascarino has cautioned Ange Postecoglou not to put his faith in Eric Dier at Tottenham.
The commentator was speaking on The Times’ The Game Football Podcast about Tottenham’s current situation and the players Postecoglou can rely on to lead the team ahead.
Cascarino rightly stated that important decisions must be made with Hugo Lloris and Harry Kane, and he also stated that Dier is a player on whom Postecoglou must make a decision.
Cascarino isn’t a big admirer of Dier, alleging that the English defender usually disappoints his managers and urging Postecoglou not to put too much faith in the 29-year-old.
Dier will fail him.
Cascarino rendered his decision on Dier.
“Look, aside from Harry Kane, there are some major decisions to be made.” Hugo Lloris has most likely played his final game, and a new goalie is required. Eric Dier has survived every manager, every manager they’ve hired, and it’s the same narrative every time. He starts well, is lauded as a fantastic center-half, and then falls backwards. “Their backline is terrible; they’re so easy to beat,” Cascarino added.
Difficult
It will be difficult for Postecoglou to make a decision on Dier.
As Cascarino points out, the center-back is frequently great when working under a new management, but those performances fade rapidly after a few months.
Many previous managers have refused to be brutal with Dier, and Postecoglou cannot fall into that trap.
The defense requires a spark, and perhaps some harsh treatment from a new, tough-talking boss is just what the doctor prescribed for Tottenham and the player himself.
Postecoglou does not have much faith in Dier.
