According to Fabrizio Romano, Manchester City defender Aymeric Laporte is currently evaluating his future ahead of the summer, following reports that he has already been offered to Tottenham Hotspur.
Tottenham have a busy summer ahead of them as they look to recruit a new manager and guarantee Harry Kane’s long-term future at the club.
Julian Nagelsmann and Luis Enrique have been widely connected to the position, but it remains to be seen whether either manager would be prepared to take the job.
Despite the lack of a permanent manager, Spurs appear to be forging on with their plans for the forthcoming transfer window.
Indeed, 90 Minutes reported earlier this month that Tottenham had made an offer to Aymeric Laporte.
The 28-year-old has been outstanding for City over the years, but he has battled to find a place in Pep Guardiola’s starting lineup this season.
Fabrizio Romano now believes that Laporte is thinking about his future ahead of the summer.
Laporte contemplating his future
In his most recent YouTube video, Romano provided an update on Laporte’s future amid Tottenham’s interest.
According to the transfer expert, the City star would prefer a move to Barcelona, but that appears improbable at the moment.
“Keep an eye on Aymeric Laporte with Manchester City,” Romano advised. “At the moment, they don’t want to comment because they are completely focused on winning the treble.”
“They don’t want any distractions in the transfer market because they have the cup, the Champions League, and the Premier League.”
“However, it is important to note that Aymeric Laporte has expressed an interest in leaving Manchester City in the summer.” He’ll look into his choices because he wants to be a regular starter.
“This is the player’s idea; his greatest dream is to try out for Barcelona.” This is Laporte’s future priority, but the reality is that Barcelona will sign Inigo Martinez in that position and also save their financial situation for the Leo Messi contract.”
Tottenham have struggled defensively this season after failing to sign a top-tier defender in the previous two transfer windows.
Clement Lenglet has been rather steady since joining Spurs on a season-long loan from Barcelona, but the club will almost certainly need to bring in more reinforcements during the summer.
Laporte has been outstanding for City in recent seasons, and he would undoubtedly provide a quality alternative at centre-back for Spurs.
However, it appears that the £57 million man has his heart set on a move to Camp Nou, which may make it difficult for Spurs to entice him to north London.
