Tottenham vs Arsenal on Sunday
The build-up to the derby is now gathering steam as the international players from both squads are now back at their respective clubs.
Tottenham will have to deliver a statement performance and pick up a result on the back of their defeat at St James’ Park and with Arsenal having a lot of injuries and suspensions to contend with, the expectations among Spurs supporters have gone up.
It turns out that it is not just the injuries that have left Mikel Arteta’s men fuming but also the announcement of the official in charge of the game.
Arsenal not happy with NLD referee choice
The news of Gillett being handed Sunday’s game at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium has reportedly not gone down well at the Emirates.
This is because the Australian referee was involved in a controversial incident in Arsenal’s opening game of the season against Wolves.
There was anger among the Gunners camp when Gillett and the VAR in charge of the game failed to send off Wolves defender Yerson Mosquera after he grabbed Kai Havertz around the throat.
The report explains that the 37-year-old has also been involved in other flashpoints involving Arsenal, which is why many in the red half of North London are quite peeved after learning that he will be taking charge of the big game.
Spurs Web Opinion
If anything, this will likely work in Arsenal’s favour as Gillett would be aware of his reputation and may perhaps sub-consciously try to favour the visitors to show that he is not biased against them.
