Tottenham Hotspur have scheduled negotiations with Bayer Leverkusen to recruit Edmond Tapsoba.
That is according to Fabrizio Romano of The Debrief Podcast.
The journalist was discussing Tottenham’s search for a new center-back when he eventually brought up Tapsoba.
The Bayer Leverkusen defender has been heavily connected with Spurs for several weeks now, and according to Romano, Spurs are not giving up on him because he is their top priority.
However, Romano makes it clear that the price tag may be a sticking point here and that a compromise must be struck if a deal is to proceed.
Tapsoba discussions are planned.
Romano revealed what he knows about the £45 million player.
“Let me say that this is Tottenham’s style; they are still talking to Wolfsburg about Micky van de Ven, and they will talk about Edmond Tapsoba next week.” They have already scheduled a second round of negotiations with Bayer Leverkusen for early next week. According to my research, Edmond Tapsoba is the preferred player at Tottenham, but he is more expensive, so a compromise is required,” Romano added.
It will not be easy.
Tottenham will try to haggle with Leverkusen over the price, but it will be difficult.
The German club has demonstrated on numerous occasions that they will not be bullied in the transfer market.
They’ve turned down numerous bids for Moussa Diaby in the last year, while they made sure to secure a large sum for Kai Havertz when the time came to sell him to Chelsea a few years ago.
Leverkusen are tough negotiators, and it’s difficult to envision them selling Tapsoba for a penny less than he’s worth.
