Saudi Arabia Al Ittihad turn all attentions away from Heung-min Son to sign another spur star

Tottenham star Heung-min Son is said to be the next world-class player on his way to Saudi Arabia.

He could be joined by former Spurs teammate Matt Doherty, who is available on a free transfer after a brief stint at Atletico Madrid.

Son, a South Korean international, struggled for consistency in the 2022/23 season, scoring just 10 Premier League goals in 36 appearances, a year after earning the Golden Boot with 23 goals.

According to ESPN, Saudi Pro League champions Al Ittihad are interested in pairing him with Karim Benzema.

Son has two years left on his contract in north London, and it is reported that a £51 million offer with bonuses is being readied for him.

Son is said to have been offered a contract until 2027 in the Gulf country, with a yearly salary of £25.6 million.

Tottenham, according to ESPN, appears unlikely to be eager to transfer the forward.

And there are doubts about whether Son would be enticed by a transfer to the Middle East.

However, right-back Doherty, who had his contract with Spurs terminated in January, could be heading to Asia.

Doherty signed a short-term contract with LaLiga heavyweights Atletico Madrid at the end of the winter transfer season.

And Diego Simeone’s side have opted not to extend his tenure at the Wanda Metropolitano after only two appearances in the Spanish top flight.

According to Fabrizio Romano, an Italian reporter, the 31-year-old is in talks with a number of Saudi clubs about a prospective move.

Negotiations are underway to make Doherty the latest high-profile star to relocate to Saudi Arabia.
