Gabby Agbonlahor has revealed that he had a chance to move to Tottenham Hotspur during the peak of his career but he decided to remain at Aston Villa instead.
The Englishman formed a formidable strike partnership with John Carew and later Emile Heskey, and he was widely considered one of the best strikers in the Premier League at the time, frightening defences with his blistering pace.
However, Agbonlahor’s performances dropped off after 2010 and he eventually failed to fulfil the early promise he showed, finishing with 85 Premier League goals in 371 appearances before Villa’s relegation in 2016.
Gabby Agbonlahor could have joined Tottenham
The 37-year-old has now revealed that Harry Redknapp expressed an interest in taking him to White Hart Lane but admitted that he did not want to leave his boyhood club.
When asked if he ever had the opportunity to leave Villa Park, the pundit told talkSPORT: “There was a chance to go to Spurs. That was one. Harry Redknapp was involved.
“I’ve seen Jamie O’Hara’s white bed linen and thought I can’t be around these big-time Charlies [he joked]. For me, I was homesick going out of Birmingham, never mind leaving Aston Villa so it wasn’t in my interest to leave.”

It was probably a dodged bullet for Tottenham as Agbonlahor massively dropped off after 2010 and suffered quite a lot of injuries.
Besides, Spurs ended up getting a lot out of the likes of Roman Pavlyuchenco, Peter Crouch and Emanuel Adebayor, who they signed instead over the next couple of years.
