The future of Tottenham Hotspur’s star is currently in severe jeopardy.
Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Pierre-Emile Hjbjerg is unlikely to stay at the north London club this summer, according to transfer insider Dean Jones.
The 27-year-old has been heavily linked with a departure from Ange Postecoglou’s team.
Tottenham Hotspur transfer news: Pierre-Emile Hjbjerg
Tottenham are willing to sell both Hjbjerg and his teammate Eric Dier, according to 90min.
In terms of where the former could wind up, Bayern Munich has been mentioned as being interested in him.
According to German journalist Christian Falk, the Bundesliga club has considered re-signing the Dane this summer window.
As previously reported, he joined Hotspur Way from Southampton in a move valued roughly £15 million in 2020.
What has Dean Jones said about Tottenham and Pierre-Emile Hjbjerg?
Jones believes that Hjbjerg is on his way out of Tottenham.
“In terms of Dier and Hjbjerg, I don’t know about Dier,” the journalist told GIVEMESPORT. I don’t know enough about it, but Hjbjerg’s future appears to be in jeopardy. And I believe he is unlikely to stay at Tottenham.”
Should Spurs sell Pierre-Emile Hjbjerg?
It is difficult to dispute that Hjbjerg is Tottenham’s most pressing issue right now. He is a seasoned Premier League midfielder with 218 Premier League games (according to Transfermarkt) and brings a lot to the club.
According to WhoScored, the Denmark international completed 64.5 passes per league game last season, the highest average on the Spurs’ roster. He also made 1.4 interceptions per game, which was only surpassed by Cristian Romero (1.6).
The former Southampton player is a footballer who can maintain the ball in the engine room while also cutting out passes.
“First and foremost, Pierre is extremely intelligent. “He reads the game very well,” his former manager José Mourinho was reported by GOAL in 2020 as saying. “He’s going to be a coach one day, for sure.”
Later, the AS Roma manager added, “And the guy is so simple in everything he does with the ball.” And I think he’s a fantastic player. Mr [Daniel] Levy, congratulations.”
Finally, Hjbjerg is not the only player Tottenham should aim to offload this summer. However, following such a terrible 2022/23 campaign, it appears like change is on the way.
It is possible that Hjbjerg and many other members of Postecoglou’s squad will leave during the transfer window. Maybe the ex-Bayern star isn’t always the most appealing to the eye, but Spurs will struggle to find a more influential midfielder.
