Tottenham boss Postecoglou made final decision to sign electric striker within 24hrs

Tottenham Hotspur are making Brennan Johnson their top target in the final days of the transfer window with Ange Postecoglou desperate to get him signed up.

Ange Postecoglou views Brennan Johnson as his number one transfer target as the transfer deadline draws ever closer.

That is according to Football London’s Alasdair Gold, who reports that Postecoglou believes Johnson is the absolute ‘perfect fit’ for Tottenham.

Gold does though add that this is a tough deal for Tottenham to pull off and any agreement is likely to come late in the window.

We’re now just a few days away from the deadline so Tottenham need to get moving if they are to bring in Johnson.

The Telegraph also report that Tottenham are pushing to complete a deal for Johnson this week.

They suggest that Tottenham will offer cash plus players for Johnson with defender Davison Sanchez and winger Bryan Gil on offer.

Tottenham have been open to offers for Sanchez this summer but may have to hold fire on an exit given question marks over Eric Dier’s future too.

Gil just hasn’t worked out for Tottenham since joining from Sevilla in 2021 and after returning to Sevilla on loan, Spurs would love to sell him.

Why Ange Postecoglou is so convinced about Brennan Johnson

Tottenham’s interest in Johnson seems to be dividing opinion.

Some fans think Tottenham should go for a more natural central striker, somebody like Lille’s Jonathan David.

Others think that Tottenham should focus on somebody with a perceivably ‘higher ceiling’ and at a lower cost, like Gift Orban of Gent.

Johnson has the versatility that Postecoglou wants though having played all across the front line for Nottingham Forest.

Then you add in that Johnson is already adjusted to life in the Premier League having scored eight top-flight goals for Forest last season.

Johnson is also a homegrown player and has been praised for having ‘electric pace’ by his former Lincoln City boss Michael Appleton.

That speed and versatility is so appealing to Postecoglou and Johnson is still only 22 – plenty of room for him to grow and develop.

Tottenham have wingers who are strong at cutting inside in Son Heung-min and Dejan Kulusevski, as well as a wide man who is tricky in short-area bursts in Manor Solomon.

None of them have that pure speed of Johnson though and Postecoglou seems to believe that he can bring something completely different to the Spurs attack – but bringing him to North London in the coming days won’t be cheap or easy.
