Tottenham edge Newcastle to sign £60m player this summer after series of negotiation

According to CBS writer Ben Jacobs, Newcastle United are concerned that a move to Tottenham Hotspur will “turn James Maddison’s head.”

Tottenham and Newcastle have both been extensively linked with a summer deal for Maddison.

Spurs sorely need a creative midfielder, and while Newcastle have Bruno Guimaraes, they lack a No10.

According to The Telegraph, Maddison is almost certain to depart Leicester City this summer, with both Tottenham and Newcastle interested.

Now, Jacobs has informed GiveMeSport that Newcastle is concerned that Maddison will be enticed by a move to London.

Jacobs provided an update on Maddison’s future, which has sparked interest from Tottenham and Newcastle.

“Tottenham have always had a long-standing interest,” added the journalist. “We now need to figure out who their new sporting director and manager are, but they’re worth keeping an eye on this summer.”

“And I believe Newcastle’s main concern is that Maddison may be swayed by London, giving Tottenham or another suitor an opportunity and an advantage, but Newcastle will be there for sure.”

Maddison has been outstanding for Leicester City in recent seasons and looks ready to leave the King Power Stadium this summer.

This season, the 26-year-old has contributed 19 goals in 29 Premier League games for a struggling Leicester side.

With the Foxes facing relegation from the Premier League, it appears Maddison will be on the move, even if Dean Smith’s players avoid relegation.

The England international’s current deal expires in the summer, although Leicester are expected to demand roughly £60 million for his services.

This summer will be an exciting battle for Maddison, and it may come down to whether or not Newcastle qualify for the Champions League.
