Tottenham finally close an agreement over the final amount with there massive defender

Tottenham have apparently reached a ‘deal’ with defender Clement Lenglet, with only the ‘final price’ with Barcelona standing in the way of the transfer.

Ange Postecoglou, the new manager of Tottenham Hotspur, is starting to remedy the wrongs of the previous season. The north London club had a disappointing season by any measure, finishing in eighth place.

It was their lowest finish since the 2008/09 campaign. It’s clear from last season’s performance that things need to alter for Tottenham to be successful.

Some parts of the field were visibly in need of repair. Hugo Lloris was heavily criticized last season, and Postecoglou has already brought in a new goalkeeper in Guglielmo Vicario.

Spurs have lacked a creative spark since Christian Eriksen’s departure. James Maddison, one of the league’s top creators, has entered the building.

Pedro Porro’s contract has been extended, while Dejan Kulusevksi’s contract, which had been in doubt according to rumours, has also been reaffirmed.

Indeed, Postecoglou will have to walk a tight line between keeping players who have made an impact and bringing in new faces who he believes would do a greater job.

One loanee from last season has certainly done enough to earn a permanent move in his view.

According to Sport in Spain, a ‘deal in principle’ on personal terms has been reached for Lenglet.

The next stage will be to reach a fee arrangement with Barcelona. According to the article, the ‘final sum’ of the transfer has been discussed ‘for several days’.

It’s been claimed that the defender could be less expensive than Barcelona would like. Spurs, in fact, “do not want to pay a lot of money,” and the sale is “absolutely necessary” for the Spanish giants.

The report suggests a sum of €10 million (about £8.6 million), albeit “nothing has been agreed or closed.”

While this would result in Lenglet moving on the cheap, it is indicated that the current contact is in order to reach a deal that is ‘useful to all sides’.

When Lenglet was released by Tottenham at the end of the season, it came as a surprise. Indeed, reports indicated that they were set to sign the defender, and Postecoglou had already been appointed by the time the list was made public.

As a result, considering that he wasn’t signed at the time, it’s reasonable to conclude he wasn’t.

However, it appears that Postecoglou, like his predecessor Antonio Conte, sees Lenglet as a player who can help his team.

Only four Premier League teams conceded more than Tottenham last season, and three of them were relegated, so the defense will be scrutinized.

Despite the fact that Lenglet is a member of that substandard back line, Postecoglou clearly believes he can get more out of him with the other members of the defense than Conte could.
