Stan Collymore believes a takeover could be on the cards at Tottenham with a £6billion offer mooted from Amanda Staveley.
Daniel Levy has been in talks with the ex-Newcastle United shareholder and her investors over potentially purchasing a stake in the North London club [The Mirror].
If successful, investment from the Middle East could be utilised by Spurs in a move which hasn’t gone down well with Collymore, in his column for Caught Offside on 17 October, who has mooted a £6bn offer.
He said: “I get why Spurs would be seen as a potential hostile takeover with Middle East businessman first buying a small amount of shares, then gradually buying the whole club.
“The suggestion from recent news reports were that it was 12.5 per cent for £700 million, and then the Qataris would chew off the percentages until they bought the lot.
“Joe Lewis and Daniel Levy could be offered something ridiculous like £6bn to get out, and then Amanda Staveley, by putting in relatively little of her own money, will walk away with an astounding amount.”
Amanda Staveley interested in Tottenham takeover from Daniel Levy
The British business executive is in the market to reinvest the £500m she received from selling her share in Newcastle and has Spurs in her vision.
It does seem as if she is maintaining this interest after being spotted at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on 13 October for the NFL match between Jacksonville Jaguars and Chicago Bears [Lilywhite Rose].
Although this may just be a leisure activity, it is convenient timing for the 51-year-old to show her face around North London.
It has also been suggested that Levy was in attendance at the clash[Football London] which could point towards more informal discussion.
Talks may have been held but it is likely that the current chairman will be demanding an extortionate price for the club which could test Staveley’s resolve.
She has shown in the past that she has positive contacts with wealthy individuals, bringing the Saudi Arabian Public Investment Firm on board at Newcastle.
It is yet to be seen whether a deal can be completed for Spurs but there is no doubt that Levy will want his fair share after 23 years at the club.
