Tottenham Hotspur’s latest transfer news and rumours as they plan prospective acquisitions for the next Premier League season
Tottenham Hotspur are allegedly interested in signing Leicester City midfielder James Maddison. Following Leicester City’s relegation to the Championship, the London club is poised to provide the England international a Premier League lifeline.
The Telegraph reports that Ange Postecoglou is’set’ to make a move for the 26-year-old ahead of the forthcoming transfer window. According to the report, a transfer fee in excess of £50 million may be necessary to entice him away from the King Power Stadium this summer.
Spurs finished eighth in the table last season and will not compete in any European competition this season, which could be a blessing in disguise for them. It allows players to concentrate solely on the league and greatly minimizes the amount of games they must play.
Maddison, who has two caps for the Three Lions, has been with Leicester since 2018. He has subsequently appeared in 203 games for them in all competitions, scoring 55 goals, 10 of which came last season.
Prior to joining the Foxes, he progressed through the youth divisions of his hometown club Coventry City, breaking into their first-team as a youngster before being signed by Norwich City. He subsequently played two years at Carrow Road, where he scored 16 goals in 53 games.
Spurs may see Maddison as a way to add talent to their squad following a difficult year. Postecoglou has been appointed as the club’s permanent replacement for Antonio Conte, making him the first Australian to manage in the English Premier League.
He makes the move after twice winning the Scottish Premiership with Celtic. The 57-year-old will be eager to leave his mark on the event.
