‘The next Kylian Mbappe,’ say Arsenal and Tottenham, as Montpellier tease a move for Elye Wahi.
Arsenal has been told why Elye Wahi is worth spending money on, following the Montpellier striker’s excellent season in Ligue 1.
The Gunners and Tottenham Hotspur have both been linked with the 20-year-old forward, who has 12 goals in 24 games and is vying for his senior France debut.
Wahi has become only the second teenager, after Kylian Mbappe, to score 20 Ligue 1 goals while still a teenager, and his Montpellier manager Michel de Zakarian believes he can make the step up to the Premier League.
“The kid is 20, and he’s got a lot of talent,” De Zakarian told France Bleu. “That is very expensive. For me, he’s worth at least €25-30 million. When you look at the TV rights over there, England can afford to buy him. It is more convenient for them.
“He needs to run a lot more, be constantly moving, and be able to repeat his efforts. He’s a sprinter, and he goes fast, but he gets tired after 45 minutes. He needs to work a little harder; he trains every day. He needs to work hard if he wants to play in a big club with great players.
“He has the ability to go a long way at a high level. When you score goals like he does, you have to put them in the back of the net. What he does is commendable for his age, but I believe he can do better.”
