According to rumours, Tottenham Hotspur have “come forward” for Torino defender Perr Schuurs and are willing to outbid Premier League opponents.

Who will the Spurs bring in?

Following the additions of goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario, midfielder James Maddison, and winger Manor Solomon, recent reports indicate that there will be more soon.

Indeed, Tottenham Hotspur have reportedly completed a deal for Rosario Central striker Alejo Veliz, with reputable transfer writer Fabrizio Romano giving the transaction his famed “here we go” stamp of approval.

Meanwhile, new boss Ange Postecoglou is closing in on his first centre-back signing of the summer, with Wolfsburg’s Micky van de Ven set to join the club.

Despite the fact that van de Ven’s transfer is nearing completion, it has been reliably stated that Spurs have not ruled out completing two senior central defensive acquisitions – not including their rumoured deal for Blackburn Rovers starlet Ashley Phillips.

As we approach deadline day and reach the final stretch of the transfer season, it appears Spurs will have a very busy month, with DAZN journalist Orazio Accomando now reporting that they have entered the bidding for Torino’s Schuurs.

The centre-back, who reportedly has a verbal agreement with Crystal Palace, is being pursued by Spurs as they “come forward” for his signature.

Tottenham are also “willing to raise the offer” to both Schuurs and Torino, implying that they could outbid Palace, although Schuurs appears to be in no hurry to depart.

“Update Schuurs,” Accomando wrote on Twitter.

“In addition to Crystal Palace, with whom he has had a verbal agreement for some time, Tottenham has come forward once more, willing to increase the offer to both Torino and the player.”

“Schuurs has not requested a transfer and is focused on the grenade season while waiting for new developments.”

Perr Schuurs, how excellent is he?

Last season, the 23-year-old made 30 appearances for Torino, becoming a regular under Ivan Juric, with Schuurs even contributing two assists in the Italian top flight (WhoScored).

It is uncertain how much Torino value its defender at this point, but rumors claim he could cost roughly £34 million to lure away from the Stadio Olimpico Grande Torino.

Keeping this in mind, there is reason to believe that if Spurs do have the finances for a transfer after van de Ven, he could be worth the investment.

Schuurs leads Torino in certain key defensive stats, making more effective tackles and clearances per 90 minutes than any of his colleagues in Serie A previous season (WhoScored).

The Dutchman also completed 88.2% of his passes out of the back, indicating that he could be a good fit for Postecoglou’s fluid, offensive approach (WhoScored).

Late last year, journalist Josh Bunting described Schuurs as a “mountain” of a defender.

During a match, he wrote:

“Mattia Destro scores Empoli’s first goal in Serie A as they take the lead at Torino.” The touch and bicycle finish were fantastic, but the cross from Tyronne Ebuehi was so wonderfully weighted. Destro should feel more confident as the season progresses. Torino gets a mountain from Perr Schuurs.”
