Tottenham are preparing to make a bid for Montpellier striker Elye Wahi, according to Midi Libre in Montpellier.
According to the article (as published by The Spurs Express), the bid will be made in the “next few hours.”
Chelsea has also been linked with a deal for the Frenchman.
In fact, Chelsea has already made a bid for him, which was turned down by the club.
Montpellier president Laurent Nicollin discussed the club’s transfer affairs with Midi Libre (via Football 365), and Wahi was mentioned.
Nicollin acknowledged Chelsea’s offer, but added:
“The amount offered didn’t meet our expectations.”
He has a contract with Montpellier until the end of the 2025.
He scored 19 goals and assisted 6 other in 33 league appearances last season.
In 91 senior games, the Montpellier star has scored 32 goals and provided 9 assists.
The allegation indicating an impending Spurs bid has only been reported by the Montpellier-based journal, and no other mainstream medium appears to have reported it. As a result, the report’s dependability cannot be established.
However, the 20-year-old is extremely skilled, so interest in him is understandable.
Chelsea’s initial bid is thought to be €25 million, so any bid from Spurs will have to outbid that.
Other strikers linked with the club include Lille’s Jonathan David and Kolo Muani of Eintracht Frankfurt.
Even if the report regarding a bid is genuine, he would only be a good signing for the future, in my opinion.
