Tottenham prepare to sign £55m premier League defender who is desperate to leave club

Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly increasing their interest in Chelsea defender Marc Cucurella as Ange Postecoglou searches for a new left-sided defender.

Cucurella has struggled in a Chelsea shirt since joining from Brighton for £55 million last summer.

Last season, the Spanish defender appeared in 33 games across all competitions but struggled to find form at Stamford Bridge.

Spurs are looking for a replacement for Ivan Perisic and could provide the 24-year-old a lifeline.

The Croatian international has been extensively linked with a move to Hajduk Split, which would leave Spurs short in wing-backs.

Tottenham are ‘closely following’ the situation with Cucurella, according to Football Transfers, and could make a move soon.

According to the source, Chelsea is ‘desperate’ to get rid of the 24-year-old after a poor debut season.

Chelsea have already lost a number of first-team players this summer, and Cucurella would not be surprised to join that list.

Mauricio Pochettino emphasized during his first press conference as Chelsea manager that he trusts the Chelsea hierarchy.

“We’re working really hard,” said the Argentine coach. “I have faith in this football club and its owners, and all I need to do is coach and guide them to achieve what we and our fans expect.”

“I’m not going to dwell on the past.” Everyone at Chelsea, as well as our fans, must remain optimistic and attempt to believe.

“I’m still not trying to think of the most difficult challenge.” It is critical to complete the roster and have a balanced squad.

“It’s difficult to wait in football.” You must deliver from day one at Chelsea. We are now working on the training ground to deliver from now on, to provide our best.”

Chelsea’s team has already been strengthened by the additions of Christopher Nkunku and Nicolas Jackson, but there is still more work to be done.
