Tottenham in race with West Ham for 13-goal attacker faster than Harry Kane

According to the Telegraph, West Ham United has pulled ahead of Tottenham Hotspur in the race to sign Leicester City winger Harvey Barnes.

Barnes scored 13 league goals in 2022-23 despite Leicester City’s relegation from the Premier League, which appears to be why he is receiving so much interest ahead of the summer transfer season.

Spurs are one of the clubs interested in signing the England international, according to the Telegraph, but they have yet to finalize their intentions following the appointment of head coach Ange Postecoglou.

West Ham has moved to the front of the Harvey Barnes waiting list.

Barnes is also thought to be on the radars of Aston Villa and Newcastle United, but the Hammers are said to have surged to the front of the queue for his signature.

According to the source, David Moyes’ men are expecting to receive a cash infusion after sanctioning Declan Rice’s £92 million deal to Arsenal, with the Leicester star being one of their key targets ahead of their Europa League debut next season.

The Foxes are said to value Barnes at roughly £40 million, but that amount is expected to fall following their relegation, with West Ham poised to begin bidding for the winger around £30 million.

Spurs Online Opinion

If we could only sign one of Maddison and Barnes from Leicester, I would take the latter over the former.

Barnes is not only younger and less expensive, but he is also more flexible and contributes more off the ball.

Postecoglou’s approach relies on rapid counter-pressing, which Maddison may struggle with because his effort off the ball is not his strong suit.
