Tottenham receives £50m asking price to sign midfield specialist as club set for negotiation

According to Football Insider, Fulham will seek bids in excess of £50 million for midfielder Joao Palhinha, despite interest from Tottenham and Manchester United.

This website reported on Tuesday (25 April) that the Red Devils,Tottenham, and Chelsea are all interested in signing the 27-year-old during the summer transfer window.

Fulham are expecting offers for Palhinha just a year after he joined the club, but they are hoping to recoup their investment.

Last summer (2022), the Cottagers paid Sporting CP a reported £20 million for the midfielder, who signed a five-year contract with the club.

Following his strong initial season in England, both Premier League and European clubs are expected to make a move for Palhinha.

On April 12, Football Insider stated that Liverpool is routinely scouting the midfielder ahead of the summer transfer season.

Palhinha has been a staple in Marco Silva’s Fulham team, appearing in 34 games and scoring four goals.

Palhinha has made the most tackles of any top-flight player this season (119), surpassing Tyler Adams and Moises Caicedo.

The 20-cap Portugal international’s only absences this season have been due to suspension after receiving 12 bookings in 29 Premier League appearances.

The Fulham defensive midfielder is estimated to make £50,000 per week, making him one of the club’s biggest earners.

Silva’s side fell further out of contention for European football after losing at Aston Villa on Tuesday (25 April).

Meanwhile, Manchester United is expected to return to the Champions League in 2023-24.

Tottenham are likely to have to settle for Europa League football next season, while Chelsea are unlikely to participate in Europe at all.
