Tottenham release list of four defenders to leave as Ange Postecoglou preps for new recruits

Ange Postecoglou has been advised to release four Tottenham defenders this summer as the team prepares to bring in new players.

After conceding 63 goals in 38 Premier League games last season, the new Tottenham manager has pinpointed his defense as an area in need of some attention, particularly centrally.

Micky Van de Ven and Edmond Tapsoba, with asking costs of roughly £30 million and £40 million, are still heavily expected to join the club. Gleison Bremer of Juventus is another target, having been identified by Posteoclgou himself.

Indeed, the 26-year-old Brazilian has long been a target for Tottenham, who were interested in him before he moved to Turin last summer.

However, there will almost certainly be departures first, and former Tottenham defender Alan Hutton knows just who should be let go.

The Scot indicated to Football Insider that Eric Dier, Davinson Sanchez, Japhet Tanganga, and Ben Davies might all be on their way out.

“I think he’ll want more than one, I think he’ll want a couple [of defenders],” Hutton said.

“I believe it has been a major issue for Tottenham, particularly over the last season.”

“There have been a lot of players who have been there for a long time and have struggled.” So it’s probably about time for them to face a new challenge.

“Ange will obviously assess his entire squad, but I’m sure he has specific targets in mind.”

While Postecoglou will be seeking for players to shore up a shaky backline, Hutton believes the time has come for a quartet of stars to go on.

In an interview with Football Insider, he continued, “For me, there are question marks about Dier, Sanchez, Tanganga, all of them.” Even Davies has done well in my opinion, but is it time for him to go on?

“It’s not going to happen all at once.”

Tottenham are anticipated to ramp up their efforts to sign at least one of Van de Ven, Tapsoba, or Bremer in the coming week, despite the club’s pre-season tour of Australia and Asia beginning over the weekend.

The expectation is that any newcomers will be able to join the party as Tottenham prepares for their season opener against Brentford next month.
