The Lilywhites are looking for new centre-backs to replace Ange.
According to reputable journalist Alasdair Gold, Tottenham Hotspur “could yet move” to capture both Micky van de Ven and Edmond Tapsoba depending on departures.
Who will the Spurs bring in?
Spurs have made moves this summer transfer window, signing goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario, playmaker James Maddison, and winger Manor Solomon on free transfers.
Ange Postecoglou, speaking after his team agreed to terms with Vicario and Maddison, was particularly taken with the pair.
“It’s not just about the talent they bring as footballers,” said the Spurs boss.
“It’s what they bring as people as well because we are going to play football that requires a certain type of personality and character.
“Both those guys have got it in abundance. I could hear it in their voices when I spoke to them. I had a couple of chats with both of them before we signed them and I knew that they were the right types to bring into the dressing room.
“Part of the driver is that if I can see that in them this is their preferred destination for the right reasons, that’s enormous.”
The north Londoners have also signed Blackburn Rovers starlet Ashley Phillips for around £3 million, with Tottenham sealing an agreement for the exciting young defender this week.
Spurs chairman Daniel Levy is still looking for a great center-back, with Wolfsburg’s van de Ven, Bayer Leverkusen’s Tapsoba, Fulham’s Tosin Adarabioyo, Barcelona’s Clement Lenglet, Galatasary’s Victor Nelsson, and Juventus’ Gleison Bremer all linked.
Moves for van de Ven and Tapsoba have been discussed in recent weeks, with reliable reporter Gold making an interesting assertion.
It was thought that Spurs would only move for one of the two, not both, but Gold reports that Tottenham might make a double move for both provided the Lilywhites can offload specific players.
Writing for football.london, the journalist claims Spurs “could yet move” for van de Ven and Tapsoba “depending on departures” from Postecoglou’s squad.
Gold then backs that Tottenham have “held talks” with both Bayer Leverkusen and Wolfsburg recently over the defensive duo.
Van de ven was an untouchable starter for Wolfsburg last season, with goalkeeper Koen Casteels being the only player to play more league minutes (WhoScored).
Tapsoba, on the other hand, is comparable in that regard, with no other Bayer Leverkusen player playing more league minutes than the Burkina Faso international (WhoScored).
Tapsoba, on the other hand, has developed quite a reputation in Germany, and has even been compared to former Bayern Munich star Jerome Boateng.
