Tottenham Hotspur are set to make a move for Sporting Lisbon superstar Manuel Ugarte as one of their major summer signings.
Ugarte has had a tremendous season in Lisbon and has emerged as one of Europe’s most in-demand players as a result of his efforts.
Tottenham are preparing a serious bid for Ugarte, according to Record, via Sport Witness.
Ugarte has long been on the radar of English clubs as a result of his work with Sporting in Lisbon. He also played in the World Cup, which raised his profile even more among Premier League clubs.
Ugarte, who has been praised in recent reports for his efforts in midfield, would certainly tick a lot of boxes at Spurs.
“He’s determined, hardworking, and focused on improving his game’s flaws.” “An unstoppable ball winner, he attempts a stunning seven tackles per 90 minutes (at a success rate of 55%) and looks to press opponents and close gaps,” ESPN wrote about Ugarte.
Tottenham first considered signing Ugarte in January. Sporting reportedly wanted closer to £70 million for Ugarte at the time, but his current release clause remains at £52 million for the time being.
Ugarte is a fantastic player for Tottenham.
Spurs made a brilliant signing in Rodrigo Bentancur, and there’s no reason why his international teammate Ugarte can’t be of the same caliber.
Bentancur has had a huge impact at Spurs. The London team is missing him terribly now that he is injured.
Tottenham would get a lot of everything in Ugarte. Most importantly, they’d be getting a high-caliber player who wants to win and do well. And that is all Spurs fans really want.
Spurs appear to be set on Ugarte regardless of who the new manager is. And, to be honest, that’s probably a good thing.
