Tottenham are in talks with Shakhtar Donetsk over the compensation needed for winger

Shakhtar Donetsk has requested £5.6 million in compensation for Tottenham Hotspur winger Manor Solomon.

According to The Athletic, Shakhtar and Tottenham are currently negotiating the conditions for Solomon.

This may appear odd given that Solomon is already a Tottenham Hotspur player, having joined the club earlier in the transfer window.

Solomon’s contract situation is unusual; despite being out of contract in December, he was able to postpone his Shakhtar contract due to the ongoing turmoil in Ukraine.

That meant Solomon joined Tottenham, but Shakhtar demanded compensation because his contract was still valid for a few months.

Shakhtar demand £5.6 million for Solomon, threatening Tottenham with legal action if they sign the winger.

This is unlikely to happen because the two clubs have good ties; they even met in a pre-season friendly on Sunday.

Tottenham is in negotiations with Manor Solomon.

That friendly has paved the way for Shakhtar and Tottenham to have direct discussions.

According to the Athletic, the meeting took place on Sunday between Shakhtar CEO Sergei Palkin and Tottenham’s director of football administration and governance Rebecca Caplehorn.

Daniel Levy has not been involved; the Spurs chairman is now in the United States, which is why Capelhorn was in charge of the Tottenham negotiations.

Shakhtar are requesting £5.6 million, but Tottenham have only provided a sell-on clause, which might make Shakhtar money in the future.

That is unlikely to result in a deal, and negotiations are already underway to try to reach an accord.

On the Tottenham flanks, Solomon, 24, appears to be a threat to both Son Heung-min and Dejan Kulusevski.

The Israeli came in as a substitute against Shakhtar on Sunday, which was an emotional experience for him.

Tottenham will now aim to resolve this position as soon as possible, with cash being required rather than just a sell-on clause.
