Tottenham turn all focus to make a huge signing before the end of this summer

Alan Hutton, a BBC Radio 5 Live analyst, has replied to reports that Tottenham Hotspur are interested in signing Paris Saint-Germain star Kylian Mbappe.

Is Kylian Mbappe leaving Paris Saint-Germain?

Mbappe has decided not to extend his contract at PSG beyond 2024, putting him at the center of what will most certainly be the summer’s greatest transfer saga.

The France international chose not to use his contract’s one-year extension clause, much to the chagrin of PSG and club president Nasser Al-Khelaifi.

The Ligue 1 winners could lose their top player for nothing next summer, which is becoming more likely as the transfer season closes.

Al-Hilal recently made a world-record £259 million proposal for Mbappe, which PSG accepted, but the 24-year-old is hesitant to meet with Saudi emissaries about a prospective transfer.

English clubs have expressed interest in Mbappe, and the Premier League might provide a solution for PSG. Chelsea, Manchester United, and Tottenham Hotspur have all expressed an interest, with reports of an enquiry (L’Equipe via Sport Witness).

Reliable media sources, such as Sky Sports Germany writer Florian Plettenberg, have also backed Tottenham’s interest in Mbappe, with BBC analyst Hutton reacting with surprise.

In an interview with Football Insider, the former Lilywhites defender says he would be shocked if Spurs did make a serious move for him, especially due to the “incredible” money involved.

I would be very surprised if that happened,” said Hutton.

There will be a lot of teams out there chasing Mbappe, he is arguably the best player in the world, the money is just incredible.

I do not see Tottenham paying that amount for anybody if I am truly honest. I can’t see him going to Saudi either but I just think there are some big teams out there that he would rather go to.

It all boils down to money, I can’t see them spending that amount of money.

To be brutally honest after what I’ve seen of pre-season I would be sorting out the defence first, I would not spend £260m on a striker when it is obvious the defence needs worked on.

How talented is Kylian Mbappe?

The former Monaco great is just incredible and one of the best players in the world.

Mbappe, who scored 29 goals and assisted five others in only 34 French top flight matches last season, also dazzled at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, scoring eight goals and aiding two others (WhoScored).

Among those who have praised Mbappe is Brazil superstar Ronaldo.

“I do, indeed. “I adore him,” declared the World Cup winner to Marca five years ago (via Fot Mob).

“He’s quick, he can finish, and he’s only 20.” We’ve known about him for three years since he’s quite talented.

“I’m not sure how players are valued at the moment, but who am I to say?” People paid a high price for me and [Zinedine] Zidane. It’s a natural progression in football.”

While we believe Mbappe is out of Tottenham’s reach, they have reason to be interested given the player’s contract status.
