View: 84% Tottenham star stole the show v West Ham, Hoddle told him he was ‘Fantastic’

Son Heung-min was on fire as he returned to action for Tottenham against West Ham, and Glenn Hoddle hailed the South Korean for his fantastic performance.

Ange Postecoglou made two changes to the team against West Ham on 19 October in the Premier League, winning 4-1 in front of the home crowd.

However, it was Julen Lopetegui’s team that broke the deadlock through Mohammed Kudus after some shabby defending from Tottenham.

Thankfully, Spurs didn’t back down, with Dejan Kulusevski scoring the equaliser and Son being the architect for the North London side’s win in the second half.

While the South Korean won’t be credited for Tottenham’s second and third goals, he was highly involved in them, opening up the space with some sublime passes.

Using the outside of the foot, the forward created brilliant opportunities for Tottenham, and his efforts for the third goal didn’t go unnoticed, with Hoddle impressed with the 32-year-old’s determination [TNT Sports, 19 October].

“I mean the graft you put in for that goal, the overlap, was fantastic. You played the pass, and then you go again,” Hoddle told Son.

Yves Bissouma was the other player to get an opportunity in place of Rodrigo Bentancur, and Spurs dominated the Hammers for most of the game.

While the Mali international got on the scoresheet, it was Son who stole the show, with 84 per cent passing accuracy, creating two chances and 10 touches in the opposition’s box, as per FotMob.

Apart from that, the forward scored his side’s fourth goal, played two passes into the final third, had an xG of 0.28 and even won one of his defensive duels.

With five shots on goal too, he was unfortunate not to get on the scoresheet more than he did, although his expected goals have him overperforming.

Spurs are lucky to have their captain back, and hopefully, the 32-year-old will lead the charge to bring a trophy to the club this season.
