The Cleveland Browns are coming off another impressive win led by quarterback Joe Flacco. Flacco came in in the middle of the year and has been playing great football, even though he was sitting on his couch to begin the year, Flacco has looked like one of the best quarterbacks since returning to the league. The Browns look like a legitimate contender in the NFL, and with Amari Cooper going off, they look like they are peaking at just the right time.
As The Browns Prepare for this week against the New York Jets, there is underrated story line going into the game for Flacco specifically. Flacco, a super bowl champion, has played on many different teams in the NFL, most recently he played for the New York Jets. While Flacco is not thinking about this as a “revenge” game, it would certainly feel great to get a win against a former team. It would be another great step for the team before the playoffs
It is definitely interesting that the Jets went with the quarterbacks they had in house after Aaron Rodgers went down for the year in the first game of the NFL season. Head Coach Robert Salah expressed why he didn’t give Flacco a call, and it definitely all worked out for Flacco and the Browns, but not the Jets
Joe Flacco has some great games for the New York Jets but he didn’t make enough of an impact to get the call this year. That ended up working out great for him as he is playing great football for the Browns and they are a legitimate contender with him in the AFC
In this weeks NFL media time after practice Flacco Shared how he’s feeling to play his former team and how he’s been very happy where he is and so grateful to have another chance to play football. In an interview with Zac Jackson of the Athletic, Joe was candid in his responses about the Jets saying
“Is what it is, Happy to be where I am for sure. Lots of guys in that locker room I respect. . . . The only reason it crossed my mind is because people asked me, ‘Hey, are the Jets gonna call you?’”
Head coach of the Jets Saleh, also shared why he didn’t give Joe a call when Rodgers went down in the beginning of the year saying:
“I love the way he prepares,” Saleh said. “…It’s just a decision we made in terms of the quarterback room and the way we developed it over the course of OTAs and training camp.”
The season for the Jets has been disappointing to say the least, and the Browns are heating up just at the right time to make a lot of noise in the playoffs. With that being said it is safe to assume that Flacco is much happier to be in Cleveland and can not wait to play meaningful games in the playoffs again.
What Joe has been able to do with the Browns can’t be over stated. He was on his couch to begin the year and just came in to the franchise that was looking pretty sloppy, but winning games because of their amazing defense. Now they look like a very real contender and one that no one in the AFC wants to run into.
