A confrontation between Jimmy Butler and Naji Marshall leads to a bench-clearing Heat-Pelicans brawl.

Jimmy Butler didn’t play in the Miami Heat’s previous three games, but he showed up to play on Friday night against the New Orleans Pelicans with his usual intensity.

Up until the point where it became a bit excessive.

Butler was involved in a fight that resulted in the early clearing of both benches during the fourth quarter, and he was one of four players sent off from Friday night’s game at the Smoothie King Center in New Orleans. Butler entered the game to break up the altercation between the two forwards as players and staff from both teams rushed onto the court to try to separate them.

Just as things appeared to be cooling down, Bryant and Alvarado got into a physical altercation in front of the scorers’ table, which only served to intensify the situation further due to the teams’ involvement. After nearly a minute of interruption, both sides raced to separate their teammates once more. Eventually, they were successful.

The four players at the center of the altercation were immediately ejected following a review, and the Heat went on to lead 84–80 at the end of regulation play. In the end, Miami won the game 106–95 even without Butler.

Butler played 27 minutes before being ejected, and he was excellent during that time. Butler had missed the previous three games due to personal issues. In the victory, he added nine rebounds, six assists, three steals, and 23 points on 7 of 12 shooting.
