GOOD NEWS: he is back

Darwin Hamm thinks Spencer Dinwiddie is still trying to adjust to the Lakers

Since signing with the Los Angeles Lakers, Spencer Dinwiddie has been trying to find his way in this new situation. The Los Angeles native didn’t have a particularly strong shooting season, but he has earned a reputation as a reliable 3-point shooter and ball-handler, which the Lakers need.

Gabe Vincent’s injury increased the need for a backup manager, so Dinwiddie was hired to fill the void after being acquired by the Toronto Raptors. Dinwiddie, who found success playing alongside Luka Doncic with the Dallas Mavericks, can play alongside stars, but he can also score on his own terms.

After two strong performances early in his Lakers career, growing pains have become evident as the guard tries to adapt to the Lakers’ system. In Sunday’s game against the Phoenix Suns, Dinwiddie struggled for 23 minutes, scoring just three points on 1-of-5 shooting. Head coach Darwin Hamm believes he understands and wants him to play his game during this adjustment period.

“Spencer has a high IQ, is intelligent, intelligent and is a basketball player,” Hamm said. Yes, you will go through this process, the process of discovery, when you find yourself in a new situation.

We told him to be aggressive, attack when he gets a chance and keep learning the system. I was happy to have a fun movie session with him in town. It was nice to be able to introduce him to some terms and terminology. Again, we emphasize the way we want to play and refresh the players who came here.

But I’m not worried about Spencer. He understands that, we understand that, and we help him get into a position where he can be incredibly successful. »

Ham, in particular, is known for wanting to play with players who take pride in the defensive side of the field. Ham believes Dinwiddie’s defense has been solid in his five games with the team.

“It’s solid,” he said. “He was solid. He’s a great defender, he works hard, he competes. Again, just know the diagram of where it should be and what’s going on. But overall I think he did well.

As the Lakers race towards the finish line, Dinwiddie is under added pressure as the team tries to get out of the play-in tournament. Fortunately, the 6-foot-5 guard is a seasoned veteran who should be able to put it all together in short order.

Darwin Hamm tries to balance playing time for Spencer Dinwiddie and Max Christie

The controversial aspect of Sunday’s loss was that while Max Christie showed he was ready to play now, he didn’t play well enough. The 21-year-old played well in just five minutes, but Ham admitted it was difficult to find a balance between himself and Dinwiddie.
