The super-sub that Bayern Munich supporters have been waiting for is Mathys Tel.
The teenage sensation from Bayern Munich, Mathys Tel, appears to be unfazed by his exclusion from the most recent French National Team roster, as he scored another goal off the bench in a convincing 5-2 victory over Darmstadt.
Tel is celebrating because this is his tenth goal in the Bundesliga in his rapidly developing career. Tel is now the youngest player outside of Germany to achieve this feat and, behind Florian Wirtz of Leverkusen and Youssoufa Moukoko of Borussia Dortmund, the third youngest player in the Bundesliga to reach the 10-goal milestone overall.
While Tel may not have been able to break Moukoko’s record of scoring ten goals, he still has a chance to surpass another Dortmund-colored striker to set a new record.
Paco Alcácer scored 12 goals for the black and yellows from the bench during the 2018–19 campaign, setting a Bundesliga record (via Bundesliga.com). This season, Tel has scored seven goals from the bench, which, while not enough to overtake Alcácer’s record, does make him the highest-scoring substitute in all of the major European leagues.
Will Tel smash the record, or will the former Borussia Dortmund player hold onto it? In any case, Tel’s career is taking off.
