Birmingham City should consider signing one of these five Premier League players
Birmingham City have had an eventful Championship campaign.
The Blues started the season well under manager John Eustace, but he was controversially sacked in October. His replacement Wayne Rooney also did not perform well and the team fell down the table before he was eventually replaced.
Tony Mowbray is currently the manager, but due to illness he has temporarily stepped down, leaving Mark Venus to take charge of the first team. The Midlands team will continue to focus on the summer market, hoping for a positive end to the fight for survival this season.
Here are five Premier League players that clubs could target this summer in the upcoming transfer window.
John Egan has had issues with Premier League side Sheffield United and his contract could expire at the end of the season. The Irishman brings a wealth of high-level experience to St Andrews and could add to their defensive capabilities.
His recent injuries are a concern, but if he can stay healthy, signing a centre-back could be a smart move to strengthen the backline. Jairo Riedewald is another player who could bring a wealth of top-level experience to Birmingham this summer.
The Blues currently have a strong partnership between Ivan Šundjic and Christian Bielik. The Brighton striker has been on the fringes of the Amex’s first team this season but has never been able to break into the first team.
The young striker has shown great promise at youth level and a loan move to the Championship this summer could be the next step in his development. The Irishman could do a lot worse than moving to St Andrews, as Mowbray has proven himself to be an excellent coach for high-potential young stars.
Birmingham can also use additional firepower on the front lines, so this could be ideal for all parties. Birmingham attempted to sign a goalkeeper for the second half of the season in January, but were unable to finalize a deal.
John Ruddy has been a good addition to the team, but it may be time for him to look for other options at his disposal. Davies is Sheffield United’s second choice but is out of contract and may want to play more regularly.
A move to St Andrews could earn him more game time and could increase his chances of breaking into the Wales squad. Jevison has shown some potential in league appearances for Sheffield United so far this season.
However, the striker failed to break into the Premier League first team and is currently out of contract at Bramall Lane. A move to Birmingham could be a smart next step in his career and could help strengthen Mowbray’s attacking options.
As a free agent, this is a relatively safe move for the Blues to add a promising young striker to their ranks, and his value could rise significantly if he can start to fulfill his potential. There is sex.
